Caphosol is a supersaturated calcium phosphate oral rinse designed to prevent and treat oral mucositis, a common and painful complication of intensive cancer therapies such as high-dose chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The product is supplied as two separate aqueous solutions: Solution A (containing phosphate ions) and Solution B (containing calcium ions). When mixed immediately before use, they form a supersaturated solution that mimics the mineral composition of natural human saliva. This formulation works by moistening and lubricating the oral cavity, maintaining the integrity of the oral mucosal epithelium, and providing high concentrations of calcium and phosphate ions that facilitate the repair of damaged tissues. It is frequently utilized in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation or treatment for head and neck cancers.
