Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Supramox is a brand of amoxicillin, a moderate-spectrum, semi-synthetic aminopenicillin antibiotic marketed by Nutramedica. It is a small molecule that exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. These proteins are essential for the final stages of peptidoglycan synthesis; their inhibition leads to the weakening of the cell wall and subsequent osmotic lysis of the bacteria. Supramox is administered orally and is indicated for a variety of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, otitis media, sinusitis, and urinary tract infections, and is available in formulations suitable for both adult and pediatric use.
