SupT1 Cell Infusion Therapy is an experimental cell-based therapy being developed by Innovative Bioresearch for the treatment of HIV infection. The therapy involves the infusion of SupT1 cells, which are a human T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma cell line that naturally expresses high levels of CD4 and CXCR4, the primary receptors used by HIV-1 for cellular entry. The therapeutic strategy relies on a cellular sink or decoy mechanism, where the infused SupT1 cells act as targets for the virus, thereby diverting HIV-1 from infecting the patient's endogenous CD4+ T cells. This sequestration of the virus is intended to reduce the overall viral load and prevent the depletion of the host's immune system. The therapy is currently in the preclinical stage of investigation.
