Overview

Suratadenoturev (OBP-301) is a genetically modified oncolytic adenovirus designed to selectively replicate in and lyse cancer cells. It incorporates the human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) promoter to drive the expression of the viral E1 genes, ensuring that viral replication is restricted to telomerase-positive tumor cells while sparing normal cells. Developed by Oncolys BioPharma, it is currently being evaluated by Weill Medical College of Cornell University in Phase II clinical trials, specifically in combination with the checkpoint inhibitor pembrolizumab for the treatment of immunotherapy-refractory esophagogastric adenocarcinomas, including gastric, esophageal, and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancers. The drug is administered via intratumoral injection and works by inducing immunogenic cell death, which potentially sensitizes tumors to systemic immunotherapy.
