Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Suraxavir marboxil (GP681) is an orally administered small molecule antiviral prodrug developed for the treatment and prophylaxis of influenza A and B. It is converted in vivo to its active metabolite, GP1707D07, which selectively inhibits the cap-dependent endonuclease (CEN) within the polymerase acidic (PA) subunit of the viral RNA polymerase complex. By blocking this "cap-snatching" mechanism, the drug prevents viral mRNA synthesis and replication. Developed by Qingfeng Pharmaceutical Group in collaboration with researchers from Capital Medical University, suraxavir marboxil has been approved for marketing by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in China. It is typically administered as a single 40 mg dose and has demonstrated efficacy in shortening the time to alleviation of symptoms and reducing viral load in patients with acute uncomplicated influenza.
