SURF-201

SURF-201 is a novel, preservative-free topical ophthalmic formulation containing 0.2% betamethasone sodium phosphate, a potent corticosteroid, delivered in Surface Ophthalmics' proprietary Klarity vehicle. It is designed for the treatment of pain and inflammation following ocular surgery—specifically post-cataract surgery—and represents the first ophthalmic therapeutic in the United States to utilize betamethasone as well as the first preservative-free unit dose therapy for this indication[1][5][7]. The mechanism of action involves glucocorticoid receptor agonism, leading to anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing multiple inflammatory cytokines and mediators[2]. Clinical studies have shown that twice-daily administration reduces postoperative inflammation (anterior chamber cell score) and provides pain relief with a favorable safety profile compared to placebo[6][7]. The drug is currently investigational and has completed Phase II clinical trials.
