Surgicel NU-KNIT

Surgicel NU-KNIT is a sterile, absorbable knitted hemostatic fabric composed of oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC), engineered as a dense, high–tensile-strength variant within Ethicon’s Surgicel family for control of continuous oozing bleeding in surgery.[1][4] It acts as a topical adjunctive hemostat: upon contact with blood it swells into a gelatinous mass that provides a physical matrix for platelet adhesion and aggregation and lowers local pH, promoting vasoconstriction and clot formation while creating an environment that is bactericidal in vitro against a broad range of gram‑positive and gram‑negative organisms.[1][2][4] The material is bioabsorbable over roughly 7–14 days (variable with amount, saturation, and tissue bed), can be cut to size including for endoscopic use, and is intended for capillary, venous, and small arterial hemorrhage when ligation or conventional methods are impractical or ineffective, across diverse procedures such as abdominal, thoracic, neurosurgical, orthopedic, cardiovascular, otorhinolaryngologic, and oral surgeries.[1][3][4]
