SurgiClot is an absorbable, soluble hemostatic dressing developed by St. Teresa Medical, specifically designed to manage bleeding from cancellous bone during surgical procedures. The technology utilizes a proprietary electrospun nanofiber matrix composed of dextran, which facilitates the rapid delivery of human-derived thrombin and fibrinogen. Upon contact with blood or moisture, the dressing dissolves almost instantly, triggering the conversion of fibrinogen into a stable fibrin clot by thrombin. This mechanism mimics the final, critical step of the natural coagulation cascade, providing localized hemostasis. It is primarily utilized in orthopedic and spinal surgeries where traditional methods of controlling bone bleeding may be less effective.
