Surgilube

Surgilube is a sterile, water-soluble, and non-staining surgical lubricant used primarily to facilitate the insertion of medical instruments and devices into body orifices during surgical and diagnostic procedures. Developed originally by E. Fougera & Co. and currently owned by HR Pharmaceuticals, it is a carbomer-based hydrogel that provides a smooth, viscous interface, significantly reducing friction and protecting mucous membranes from trauma. The formulation is designed to be non-irritating, latex-free, and adheres well to both metal and synthetic surfaces. It is widely utilized in clinical settings for procedures such as catheterization, endoscopy, pelvic examinations, and proctology. Surgilube is available in various sterile formats, including tubes and single-use packets, and is offered in both standard and bacteriostatic versions (the latter often containing chlorhexidine gluconate).
