Surinabant (SR147778) is an orally active, selective cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) antagonist developed by Sanofi-Aventis. It was investigated primarily as a potential treatment for nicotine addiction and smoking cessation, with additional research into its use for obesity, alcoholism, and other addictive disorders. Surinabant acts by blocking the CB1 receptor, which plays a key role in regulating appetite and reward pathways.
