The survivin protein vaccine is an experimental cancer immunotherapy designed to induce anti-tumor immunity by targeting the survivin protein, an ideal tumor antigen. This vaccine aims to overcome the challenge of poor cellular immunity induction often associated with protein vaccines. Strategies to enhance its efficacy include the use of adjuvants like DDA/MPL (monophosphoryl lipid A formulated with cationic dimethyldioctadecylammonium) and an adenovirus prime-protein boost immunization strategy. These approaches have been shown to significantly increase antigen-specific IFN-γ-secreting T cells, induce cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), and enhance Th1 type cellular immune responses, leading to substantial tumor inhibition. The vaccine's anti-tumor effects can be further augmented when combined with chemotherapy agents such as oxaliplatin.
