Overview

Survodutide is an investigational, long-acting, unimolecular acylated peptide that acts as a dual agonist of the glucagon receptor and the glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor. By activating both receptors, survodutide aims to reduce body weight through increased energy expenditure and reduced food intake, while also improving glycemic control. The drug is being developed primarily for obesity (including overweight individuals with comorbidities), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH; formerly known as NASH), and type 2 diabetes. Survodutide is administered once weekly via subcutaneous injection. It has demonstrated dose-dependent reductions in body weight and improvements in metabolic parameters in phase 2 trials, with ongoing phase 3 studies targeting obesity (with or without type 2 diabetes), MASH with fibrosis stages 2–3, compensated MASH cirrhosis (stage 4), and cardiovascular outcomes in at-risk populations[1][2][7][10].
