Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sustol (APF530) is an extended-release, subcutaneous formulation of the 5-HT3 receptor antagonist granisetron, developed by Heron Therapeutics (formerly A.P. Pharma). It utilizes the proprietary Biochronomer™ drug delivery system, which consists of a viscous tri(ethylene glycol) poly(orthoester) (TEG-POE) polymer. This system allows for the sustained release of granisetron over a period of at least five days from a single injection. Sustol is specifically indicated for use in combination with other antiemetics in adults for the prevention of acute and delayed nausea and vomiting associated with initial and repeat courses of moderately emetogenic chemotherapy (MEC) or anthracycline and cyclophosphamide (AC) combination chemotherapy regimens. By providing extended therapeutic concentrations, it addresses both the acute (0-24 hours) and delayed (24-120 hours) phases of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV).
