Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Susvimo is a specialized, refillable ocular implant that delivers a customized formulation of the anti-VEGF biologic drug ranibizumab directly into the eye over an extended period. It is indicated for adults with neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), and diabetic retinopathy (DR) who have previously responded to at least two intravitreal injections of a VEGF inhibitor. Unlike standard monthly eye injections, Susvimo provides continuous intraocular delivery through a surgically implanted device, requiring refills as infrequently as every six to nine months depending on the indication. The mechanism of action involves binding to and inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby reducing abnormal blood vessel growth and vascular leakage in retinal diseases[3][4][6][8]. Developed by Genentech/Roche, Susvimo offers an alternative treatment option that can reduce treatment burden while maintaining vision outcomes comparable to monthly anti-VEGF injections.
