sutezolid

Sutezolid is an investigational oxazolidinone antibiotic developed for the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis, including extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and multidrug-resistant (MDR) forms. Structurally related to linezolid, it differs by the replacement of morpholine oxygen with a sulfur atom. Sutezolid acts as a bacterial protein synthesis inhibitor by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby inhibiting translation and bacterial growth. Preclinical studies have shown that sutezolid has superior antituberculosis activity compared to linezolid and is unaffected by mutations conferring resistance to standard TB drugs. Clinical trials have demonstrated its safety and efficacy in combination regimens for MDR/XDR-TB, with fewer toxicities than linezolid[3][4][5][7][8][10].
