Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Suvaxyn PRRS MLV is a veterinary vaccine containing a modified live Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV), genotype 1, strain 96V198. It is formulated as a lyophilisate and solvent for suspension for injection in pigs. The vaccine is designed for the active immunisation of clinically healthy pigs (including piglets from one day of age, gilts, and sows) to reduce viraemia and nasal shedding caused by infection with European strains of PRRS virus (genotype 1). The mechanism of action involves stimulating the pig’s immune system to develop protective immunity against PRRSV-1. Immunity develops within three weeks after vaccination and lasts up to 26 weeks in fattening pigs. The product is used intramuscularly or nasally, with mass vaccination possible in herds where European PRRS virus prevalence has been established[1][5][6][7].
