Overview

Suvecaltamide (JZP385) is an investigational, orally bioavailable small molecule that acts as a highly selective and state-dependent modulator of T-type calcium channels (Cav3). Originally developed by Cavion and acquired by Jazz Pharmaceuticals in 2019, suvecaltamide targets the Cav3.1, Cav3.2, and Cav3.3 subunits to regulate abnormal neuronal burst firing in the thalamocortical circuits, which is a key driver of tremors. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of moderate to severe residual tremor in patients with Parkinson's disease who are not adequately controlled by standard dopaminergic therapies. It has also been investigated for the treatment of essential tremor.
