Overview

Suvizumab (KD-247) is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the principal neutralizing determinant of HIV-1, specifically binding to the V3 loop region of the viral envelope glycoprotein gp120. It exhibits potent neutralizing activity against a broad spectrum of CCR5- and CXCR4-tropic HIV-1 strains, particularly clade B viruses with an Arg315 residue at the V3 arch. The mechanism of action involves high-affinity binding to a conserved epitope (IGPGR sequence) in gp120, thereby inhibiting viral entry into host cells. Suvizumab has demonstrated ex vivo suppression of HIV replication and provided sterile protection in animal models. Developed by Chemo-Sero-Therapeutic Research Institute, it has reached Phase 1 clinical trials for HIV infections but is not approved for any indication[1][2][4][6].
