Overview

Suxindine sulfate is a small molecule Class I antiarrhythmic agent developed by the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences. It primarily acts as a sodium channel blocker, specifically targeting the alpha subunit of the cardiac sodium channel (SCN5A). By inhibiting the rapid inward sodium current during the depolarization phase of the cardiac action potential, suxindine sulfate slows conduction velocity and reduces myocardial excitability. This mechanism is intended to suppress ectopic pacemakers and stabilize cardiac rhythm in patients with ventricular arrhythmias. The drug has been investigated in clinical trials in China for the treatment of premature ventricular contractions and ventricular tachycardia.
