SVF-002 is an investigational DNA-based vaccine candidate designed to prevent respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. Developed by researchers at the Karolinska Institutet and its spin-off, Svenska Vaccinfabriken (SVF), the vaccine utilizes a DNA plasmid platform to deliver genetic sequences encoding key RSV antigens, typically including the fusion (F), attachment (G), and nucleoprotein (N) proteins. The goal of this multi-antigen approach is to elicit both robust neutralizing antibody responses and broad T-cell mediated immunity, potentially offering more comprehensive protection than single-antigen vaccines. SVF-002 is often administered using needle-free delivery technologies or electroporation to enhance cellular uptake of the DNA plasmids. It is primarily being developed for the prevention of RSV-related lower respiratory tract disease in vulnerable populations, including infants and the elderly.
