Overview

SVF 5 is an autologous cell therapy candidate consisting of the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) derived from a patient's own adipose tissue. Developed by the Centre Hospitalier Regional de Marseille (Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Marseille), it is specifically investigated for the treatment of vocal fold scarring (scarred vocal folds). The therapy involves harvesting adipose tissue via liposuction, followed by enzymatic digestion and centrifugation to isolate the SVF, which is a heterogeneous mixture of cells including mesenchymal stem cells, endothelial progenitor cells, pericytes, and immune cells. This cell suspension is then injected into the vocal fold lamina propria. The mechanism of action is primarily paracrine, where the injected cells secrete a variety of pro-regenerative and anti-fibrotic growth factors, such as hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). these factors promote tissue remodeling, reduce collagen deposition, and stimulate angiogenesis, aiming to restore the viscoelastic properties and mucosal wave of the vocal folds.
