SVV-005 is an armed oncolytic virus being developed by Seneca Therapeutics for the treatment of solid cancers. It is based on the Seneca Valley Virus (SVV), a naturally occurring oncolytic picornavirus that exhibits high selectivity for Tumor Endothelial Marker 8 (TEM8), also known as Anthrax Toxin Receptor 1 (ANTXR1). TEM8 is a protein frequently overexpressed on the surface of tumor cells and within the tumor vasculature, while remaining largely absent in healthy tissues, providing a basis for targeted viral entry. As an 'armed' oncolytic virus, SVV-005 is engineered to carry and deliver therapeutic transgenes directly into the tumor microenvironment. This approach aims to combine direct viral-mediated tumor cell lysis with the localized expression of therapeutic payloads to enhance anti-tumor immune responses and overall efficacy. SVV-005 is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
