SW-BIC-213 is an investigational COVID-19 mRNA vaccine developed as a booster to enhance immunity against SARS-CoV-2, including emerging variants. It encodes the spike protein of wild-type SARS-CoV-2 with specific mutations (including 2P, furin, and D614G mutations) to improve immunogenicity. The vaccine uses a lipopolyplex (LPP) delivery platform distinct from lipid nanoparticles used in other mRNA vaccines. Clinical studies have shown that SW-BIC-213 elicits strong and durable humoral and cellular immune responses, with high seroconversion rates against multiple variants such as Delta and Omicron BA.1/BA.2. Safety data indicate an acceptable profile with mostly mild-to-moderate adverse events; no serious or fatal events were reported in trials[1][2][5]. A large phase 3 trial is ongoing to further evaluate its efficacy as a heterologous booster following inactivated vaccines[1].
