Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sweet orange essential oil is a volatile aromatic extract obtained primarily by cold-pressing the rinds of the fruit of *Citrus sinensis* (sweet orange)[6][9]. The major constituent is d-limonene (typically over 90%), with minor components including myrcene, α-pinene, sabinene, linalool, and others[6][8][9]. It is widely used in aromatherapy for its uplifting and calming effects on mood and stress reduction[2][5][7]. Topically or in personal care products, it exhibits antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can benefit skin health by reducing acne and promoting radiance[1][4][5]. Sweet orange essential oil also has antioxidant activity due to its vitamin C content. Traditionally it has been used to support digestion (relieving indigestion and bloating), boost immunity, soothe muscle aches/spasms, improve circulation, relieve anxiety/depression symptoms, freshen breath/oral hygiene, act as a mild diuretic/detoxifier and as a natural insect repellent[1][2][3][4][5]. It is not considered a pharmaceutical drug but rather a natural product or dietary supplement.
