Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SX-600 is a novel, investigational extended-release injectable formulation of dexamethasone acetate developed for the management of sciatica and radicular leg pain secondary to lumbar disc herniation. The drug consists of dexamethasone acetate encapsulated in biodegradable microparticles that are smaller than standard corticosteroid suspensions and even red blood cells. This unique micro-suspension enables sustained release of the active ingredient following transforaminal epidural injection (TF-EI), resulting in prolonged plasma exposure and clinical effect lasting up to 180 days after a single dose. Clinical trials have demonstrated that SX-600 provides substantial and durable pain relief with associated improvements in function and quality of life, while maintaining a favorable safety profile comparable to placebo. It is being developed as a non-opioid alternative for patients requiring epidural steroid injections for back pain[1][2][4][5].
