Overview

SYD0073 (also known as CSY0073) is a non-antibiotic macrolide small molecule being developed by Synovo GmbH for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). As an analog of azithromycin, SYD0073 is designed to retain the potent anti-inflammatory properties of macrolides while lacking antibacterial activity. This profile aims to provide therapeutic benefits in chronic inflammatory lung diseases without disrupting the normal lung microbiome or contributing to the development of antibiotic resistance. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has granted SYD0073 orphan drug designation for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. The compound was developed through a broad academic collaboration including INSERM and the University of Perugia and is currently in preclinical development.
