SYH2056 is an investigational small molecule antidepressant developed by Shanghai Yishi Pharmaceutical Technology, a subsidiary of CSPC Pharmaceutical Group. It functions as a positive allosteric modulator (PAM) of the γ-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor. By enhancing the inhibitory signaling of GABA in the central nervous system, SYH2056 is designed to provide rapid-acting therapeutic effects for patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), potentially offering a faster onset of action compared to traditional monoamine reuptake inhibitors. As of early 2024, the drug is in Phase I clinical development in China, where it is being evaluated for safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers.
