Overview

SYH9016 is a long-acting injectable Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonist developed by West China Hospital of Sichuan University. It is primarily being investigated for the treatment of prostate cancer in patients requiring endocrine therapy. As a GnRH antagonist, SYH9016 works by competitively binding to GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, which rapidly suppresses the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This inhibition leads to a swift reduction in serum testosterone to castrate levels, which is essential for controlling the growth of androgen-dependent prostate cancer cells. Unlike GnRH agonists, SYH9016 does not cause an initial testosterone surge (flare), providing a more immediate therapeutic effect and reducing the risk of clinical symptoms worsening at the start of treatment. The drug is currently undergoing Phase I clinical trials to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile.
