Overview

Sym011 is a first-in-class recombinant polyclonal antibody (rpAb) candidate developed for the treatment and prevention of *Streptococcus pneumoniae* infections. Developed by Symphogen using its proprietary Symplex technology, Sym011 is composed of a defined mixture of 25 distinct human IgG1 antibodies. These antibodies are selected to target a broad array of pneumococcal surface antigens, providing comprehensive coverage across multiple serotypes and reducing the likelihood of bacterial resistance or escape. The drug's mechanism of action involves binding to the bacterial capsule and surface proteins, which facilitates opsonophagocytosis by host immune cells and neutralizes the pathogen. Sym011 was designed as a standardized, high-potency alternative to plasma-derived intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and was primarily investigated for use in immunocompromised patients or those at high risk for invasive pneumococcal disease.
