Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sympathyl is an oral combination product containing magnesium oxide, hawthorn (*Crataegus oxyacantha*) extract, and California poppy (*Eschscholtzia californica*) extract. Developed and marketed by Laboratoire Innotech International, it is used for the symptomatic treatment of mild-to-moderate anxiety, nervous tension, and sleep disturbances. It is also indicated for functional symptoms of increased cardiac excitability in adults with a healthy heart. The mechanism of action is multifaceted: magnesium supports electrolyte balance and neuromuscular function; hawthorn is traditionally used for cardiovascular support and reducing cardiac excitability; and California poppy provides mild anxiolytic and sedative effects.
