Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Symprove is a water-based, multi-strain probiotic food supplement designed to support the gut microbiome. It contains four unique strains of live and active bacteria: *Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus* NCIMB 30174, *Lactobacillus plantarum* NCIMB 30173, *Lactobacillus acidophilus* NCIMB 30175, and *Enterococcus faecium* NCIMB 30176. [1, 2] These bacteria are delivered in a liquid solution containing an extract of germinated barley, which allows them to survive the acidic environment of the stomach and reach the gut alive. [2, 8] The proposed mechanism involves the probiotic bacteria modulating the gut microbiota, generating lactate, which in turn stimulates the growth of commensal bacteria and increases the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) like butyrate. This is believed to result in a mild anti-inflammatory effect, improved epithelial tight junction integrity, and faster wound healing in the gut lining. Symprove has been studied in clinical trials for its potential benefits in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), as well as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Parkinson's disease. [24] The product is developed and manufactured by Symprove Ltd. [5, 26]
