SYMPT-X + Dipeptiven

SYMPT-X + Dipeptiven is a perioperative glutamine supplementation (PGS) regimen investigated by National Taiwan University Hospital for its potential to mitigate sarcopenia and restore psoas muscle atrophy in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma undergoing gastrectomy. The intervention consists of two distinct components: Sympt-X, an oral glutamine powder (10 g per dose) taken three times daily for 28 days, and Dipeptiven, an intravenous solution containing the dipeptide N(2)-L-alanyl-L-glutamine administered for 5 days during the inpatient period. Glutamine is a conditionally essential amino acid that serves as a critical substrate for protein synthesis and a regulator of metabolic pathways. In catabolic states such as major surgery or cancer, exogenous glutamine supplementation is thought to stimulate muscle protein synthesis and inhibit protein degradation, thereby improving surgical outcomes and physical recovery.
