Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Synatura is a non-opioid, herbal combination syrup developed by Ahngook Pharmaceutical for the treatment of cough and congestion associated with various respiratory conditions. It is a standardized formulation containing extracts of *Hedera helix* (common ivy) and *Coptis chinensis* (goldthread). The therapeutic effect is derived from the synergistic action of its primary active markers: hederacoside C and berberine. Hederacoside C, metabolized to alpha-hederin, provides secretolytic and bronchodilatory effects by preventing the internalization of beta-2 adrenergic receptors. Berberine contributes anti-inflammatory, antitussive, and antimicrobial properties. Synatura is widely prescribed in South Korea for acute bronchitis, chronic inflammatory bronchitis, and upper respiratory tract infections, and it is being developed for Western markets through a partnership with Gravity Bio.
