Synatura (Ahn-Gook Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.)

Synatura (AG NPP709) is a botanical drug product developed by Ahn-Gook Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of respiratory conditions. It is formulated as an oral syrup containing a 3:1 ratio of *Hedera helix* (ivy) leaf extract and *Coptis chinensis* rhizome extract. The ivy leaf component acts as a secretolytic and expectorant, primarily by inhibiting the internalization of beta-2 adrenergic receptors, which enhances bronchodilation and mucus clearance. The *Coptis chinensis* component provides anti-inflammatory and antitussive effects, largely attributed to its alkaloid content (such as berberine) which modulates inflammatory pathways. Synatura was approved by the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in 2011 for the relief of cough and sputum associated with acute upper respiratory tract infections and chronic inflammatory bronchitis.
