Overview

Synbiotic 1 (Syn1) is an experimental veterinary synbiotic formulation consisting of the prebiotic inulin and the probiotic bacterium *Lactococcus lactis* subsp. *lactis* IBB SL1. It is designed for administration to broiler chickens via in-ovo injection into the egg air cell on the 12th day of incubation. The mechanism of action involves the early modulation and stabilization of the gastrointestinal microbiota, which serves as a catalyst for the development and stimulation of the avian immune system. Studies have demonstrated that Syn1 increases the populations of TCRγδ+ lymphocytes and B splenocytes, enhances phagocytic ability, and increases superoxide production, thereby improving the host's ability to combat pathogenic microorganisms. The development of this live biotherapeutic product involves a collaboration between Polish research institutions and the commercial hatchery Drobex.
