Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Synovian (HM-CS) is a cross-linked sodium hyaluronate injection developed by Hanmi Pharmaceutical for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. It is designed as a single-dose (one-shot) viscosupplementation therapy, providing a more convenient alternative to traditional hyaluronic acid treatments that require multiple weekly injections. The drug utilizes a cross-linking technology (typically using divinyl sulfone) that increases the molecular weight and stability of the hyaluronate, enhancing its resistance to enzymatic degradation and mechanical breakdown within the joint space. By restoring the rheological properties of the synovial fluid, Synovian acts as a lubricant and shock absorber, effectively reducing pain and improving joint mobility. In addition to its primary indication for osteoarthritis, the HM-CS formulation has been investigated for other applications, including the treatment of dry eye and the prevention of post-operative adhesions.
