Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Syntazo is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic containing piperacillin, an extended-spectrum penicillin, and tazobactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Marketed by Zyphars Biopharmaceuticals, it is used to treat a variety of moderate to severe bacterial infections. Piperacillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), while tazobactam protects piperacillin from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by certain resistant bacteria. This combination provides broad-spectrum coverage against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. It is typically administered via intravenous injection in hospital settings for indications such as nosocomial pneumonia and complicated intra-abdominal infections.
