A synthetic peptide derived from the human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 E6 oncoprotein. The E6 oncoprotein is a key viral protein involved in the development and maintenance of HPV16-associated cancers, such as cervical carcinoma, by promoting the degradation of the tumor suppressor p53. This synthetic peptide is designed to act as an antigen, stimulating the host's immune system to generate specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) and helper T cell responses against cells that express the HPV16 E6 oncoprotein. This immune activation aims to induce the lysis of HPV16 E6-expressing tumor cells, thereby offering a therapeutic approach for HPV-related malignancies. Some formulations involve conjugating these peptides to immune-stimulating adjuvants, such as Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) ligands, to enhance their immunogenicity and therapeutic efficacy.
