Overview
Synvisc-One (hylan G-F 20) is an elastoviscous high molecular weight fluid containing hylan A and hylan B polymers, which are chemically cross-linked derivatives of hyaluronan (sodium hyaluronate). It functions as a biologic viscosupplement, acting as a lubricant and shock absorber in the synovial fluid of joints to alleviate pain associated with osteoarthritis. Developed by Genzyme (a Sanofi company), Synvisc-One is administered as a single intra-articular injection. While it is widely approved for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis of the knee, it has also been evaluated in pivotal clinical trials for the treatment of primary osteoarthritis of the hip.
