SYP-1018 is a novel lyophilized polymeric nanoparticle formulation of voriconazole designed for intravenous administration. Developed by Samyang Biopharmaceuticals, it utilizes a low molecular weight, biodegradable amphiphilic diblock copolymer—methoxypoly(ethylene glycol)-block–poly(d,l-lactide) (mPEG-PDLLA)—and sodium salt of polylactic acid (d,l-PLACOONa) as a solubilizer instead of the commonly used sulfobutylether-beta-cyclodextrin (SBECD). This formulation aims to improve the safety and tolerability profile for patients, particularly those with renal impairment. Pharmacokinetic studies have shown that SYP-1018 has comparable pharmacokinetics and tolerability to Vfend (voriconazole), suggesting it could serve as an effective alternative antifungal therapy for systemic fungal infections[3][4].
