Syringic acid is a naturally occurring polyphenolic compound and a derivative of benzoic acid found in various plants, including grapes, honey, and cereal grains. It is characterized by its potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. The drug acts by reducing oxidative stress markers, increasing total antioxidant status (TAS), and inhibiting the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). In preclinical models of Parkinson's disease, syringic acid has been shown to restore dopamine levels in the substantia nigra, preserve tyrosine hydroxylase (TH)-positive dopaminergic neurons, and improve motor dysfunction. Its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and modulate inflammatory pathways makes it a candidate for the treatment of various neurodegenerative and inflammatory conditions.
