Overview

SYS6017 is an mRNA vaccine developed for the prevention of herpes zoster (shingles), caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). The vaccine consists of mRNA molecules encoding the glycoprotein E (gE) of VZV, encapsulated in a lipid nanoparticle formulation. This design allows induction of both humoral and cellular immune responses against VZV. It is currently being developed by CSPC Pharmaceutical Group, and has obtained clinical trial approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China. Preclinical data indicate good safety and immunogenicity, with potential for fewer adverse reactions compared to existing vaccines. There are currently no mRNA-based VZV vaccines on the market[1][3][9].
