Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FID 114657 is the development code for **Systane Complete**, a multi-action lubricant eye drop developed by Alcon for the treatment of dry eye disease. The formulation is a nanoemulsion designed to replenish and stabilize all three layers of the tear film: the mucin, aqueous, and lipid layers. It contains **propylene glycol** as a demulcent to provide immediate lubrication and **hydroxypropyl guar (HP-Guar)**, which forms a protective mucomimetic matrix on the ocular surface to promote healing and long-lasting relief. Additionally, the formulation incorporates a lipid component, **dimyristoyl phosphatidylglycerol (DMPG)**, in a nanoemulsion format to supplement the tear lipid layer and reduce evaporation. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in increasing tear lipid layer thickness and improving tear film break-up time (TFBUT) in patients with dry eye and contact lens wearers.
