Overview

SYT-510 is a first-in-class small molecule drug classified as a selective endocannabinoid reuptake inhibitor (SERI). It is designed to modulate the endocannabinoid system (ECS) by inhibiting the reuptake of endogenous cannabinoids such as anandamide, thereby increasing their levels in the synaptic cleft and enhancing neurotransmission. This mechanism aims to restore homeostasis in brain function and is being developed for neuropsychiatric disorders including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and potentially Tourette syndrome. The drug was originated at the University of Bern/NCCR TransCure and is being developed by Synendos Therapeutics. As of early 2024, it has entered Phase 1 clinical trials to assess safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and food effects in healthy volunteers[1][3][5][6][7][8].
