SYT-550

SYT-550 is a small molecule Selective Endocannabinoid Reuptake Inhibitor (SERI) being developed by Synendos Therapeutics for the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. It acts by targeting the endocannabinoid membrane transporter (EMT), a mechanism that modulates the endocannabinoid system (ECS) by inhibiting the cellular reuptake of endocannabinoids such as anandamide. By preventing the transport of these signaling molecules back into cells, SYT-550 increases their availability and signaling at cannabinoid receptors in the central nervous system. This approach is designed to restore homeostatic balance in the ECS, which is often dysregulated in conditions like anxiety and mood disorders. As of early 2024, SYT-550 is in the IND-enabling stage of development.
