Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Syzygium heyneanum ethanol extract (SHE) is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of the *Syzygium heyneanum* plant, which has a history of use in traditional medicine. According to research presented at the ADA 2026 meeting, the ethanol extract exhibits significant antidiabetic potential in alloxan-induced diabetic rat models. The extract effectively normalizes blood glucose levels, improves lipid profiles, and promotes the regeneration of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. GC-MS analysis of the extract revealed a high concentration of kauren 10-ol acetate (58.75% peak area), which is identified as the primary bioactive compound responsible for its therapeutic effects. The ethanol extract demonstrated superior efficacy compared to the aqueous extract (SHA) in improving pancreatic morphology and metabolic parameters.
