Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SZ1108 is an orally active, small molecule inhibitor of the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2), currently under clinical development by Suzhong Pharmaceutical Group. By targeting SGLT2 in the proximal renal tubules, the drug prevents the reabsorption of filtered glucose into the bloodstream, leading to its excretion in the urine. This mechanism effectively lowers blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus independently of insulin secretion. Additionally, SZ1108 is being investigated for its potential to treat diabetic kidney disease (DKD), as SGLT2 inhibition has been shown to reduce glomerular hyperfiltration and provide significant cardiovascular and renal protection. It is classified as a Class 1 innovative drug in China.
