Overview
This botanical combination therapy was developed by Taichung Veterans General Hospital as an adjunctive treatment for allergic rhinitis. Administered as a nasal irrigation solution, the formulation consists of six traditional Chinese medicinal ingredients: Szechwan Lovage Rhizome (Ligusticum chuanxiong), Magnolia biondii flower bud (Xin Yi), Taiwan Angelica Root (Angelica dahurica), Wild Mint Herb (Mentha arvensis), Baikal Skullcap Root (Scutellaria baicalensis), and Borneol. These components are dissolved in warm normal saline for daily irrigation of the nasal cavity. The therapy is proposed to work through immune modulation and anti-inflammatory effects to alleviate severe allergic reactions and nasal congestion. It has been evaluated in a Phase 2 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (NCT03443323) conducted by the hospital's Departments of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Otolaryngology.
