Overview

SZN-8141 is a bispecific antibody developed by Surrozen for the treatment of retinal vascular diseases, specifically age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic macular oedema (DME). The drug uniquely combines Frizzled 4 (Fzd4) agonism with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) antagonism. This dual mechanism aims to stimulate Wnt signaling via Fzd4 to promote normal retinal vessel regrowth and stabilization, while simultaneously inhibiting VEGF-driven pathological neovascularization. Preclinical studies have shown that SZN-8141 can induce normal retinal vessel regrowth and suppress abnormal vessel growth, potentially offering advantages over current anti-VEGF monotherapies by addressing both vascular repair and inhibition of pathological angiogenesis[1][5][7][10].
