This is an autologous cell-based immunotherapy developed by Sheba Medical Center for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, particularly relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS). The process involves isolating a patient's own myelin-reactive T cells from peripheral blood, activating them with synthetic myelin basic protein (MBP) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) peptides, expanding them in vitro, and then attenuating them via irradiation. These inactivated cells are then injected back into the patient to induce an anti-idiotypic immune response against the pathogenic T cells responsible for myelin destruction. This experimental therapy is primarily intended for patients who have failed to respond to standard immunomodulatory treatments.
